Workshop on entrepreneurship at GC College

SILCHAR, Jan 8: The carrier guidance cell of Guruchan College in association with Aastha Foundation, an NGO, organized a workshop on Entrepreneurship Development for its students in the auditorium of the college on Thursday. The programme began with the lighting of the auspicious  lamp by Dr. Bibhash Deb, principal, Dr. Dipankar Kar, co-coorditor, IQAC, Prof. Krish Chandra Das, coorditor of the workshop, Trideb Chowdhury, director of Rural Self Employment Training Institute, Prof. Joydeep Paul, Prof. Chandan Paul Choudhury, members of GC College Carrier Guidance Cell, and Arb Chakroborty, chairman of Aashtha Foundation. The programme was anchored by Dr Apratim g, associate professor, Dept of Physics, of the college.

 Trideb Chowdhury, who was the guest speaker on the occasion, said the government has initiated a campaign to promote and develop entrepreneurship among the youth in view of the entrepreneurial scerio in the North East. Colleges and Universities are gradually taking interest to create awareness of career option in entrepreneurial activities among the students. Many colleges have already set up career guidance cells to guide and counsel students for career in entrepreneurial activities and self-employment. All the universities of the country are also considering introduction of entrepreneurship as an element in academic curriculum.

 Choudhury further said that entrepreneurship is essentially the process of designing a new business or a startup company to offer a new product or a service to the intended consumers. He added to say that there are many challenges an entrepreneur faces. One must have the ability to take risks to become successful. Considering the vast opportunities that exist in the north east, it is the ideal time for the youth to start new ventures in varied sectors of the economy.

 Motivatiol speeches on self believe and confidence to form a positive frame of mind was also delivered on the occasion by Dr. Bibhash Deb and Dr. Dipankar Kar. A total of 78 students participated in the program. After the successful completion of the course, the students will be getting certificates from tiol Institute for Entrepreneurship and Small Business Development (NIESBUD), under the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship and will be eligible to avail themselves of the benefits under Prime Minister Employment Generation Program (PMEGP).
