Workshop on folk dance gets under way

Tamulpur, July 16: A 15-day workshop on folk dances of ethnic communities got under way on Saturday morning in the premises of the Cultural Bhavan of Tamulpur (Matangapar) in the district of Baksa.  The workshop was organized by Jonogosthiyo Oikyamanch, Tamulpur. The programme was iugurated by BTC Executive Member Deben Boro by lighting the lamp. In his iugural speech, Deben Boro said that Tamulpur was a cosmopolitan area and its mixed culture had given a specific identity to Tamulpur. The organization Jonogosthiyo Oikyamanch has taken steps to tie up all cultures and communities with one thread and it will increase the peace and progress in the area.  In the workshop, Bihu, Bodo folk dance, Rabha folk dance, Sarania Kachari folk dance and other folk dances will be taught by experts. Haren Das, worker of Tamulpur cultural office, also addressed the iugural function. The function was presided over by Rameshwar Brahma, president of Jonogosthiyo Oikyamanch. In the workshop, more than 100 participants from various communities are taking part.
