SHILLONG, March 26: The State Medicil Plants Board, Meghalaya and Forests & Environment Department, Social Forestry & Environment Wing organized a Workshop on Medicil Plants today at Lady Hydari Park, Shillong. Speaking at the iugural function as Chief Guest, S Kumar, IFS, PCCF, HoFF said that the system of traditiol health practices has not been given due importance. “The essence of medicine in any sector is these medicil plants”, he added. He also talked about how in isolated hamlets people depend on these life saving medicil plants as part of their tradition that has been passed on from generation to generation in curing various ailments and diseases. He advocated the idea of documentation and passing on the skills and knowledge of this traditiol practice as very often the knowledge remained confined with the practitioner himself without being passed on from generation to generation.
