Workshop on organic farming held

Tezpur, July 7: A day long workshop on Organic Farming and Climate Resilient Agriculture was held recently here at pam based Krishi Viyan Kendra, Sonitpur. Dr. Promod Chandra Deka, Head of Krishi Viyan Kendra, Sonitpur welcomed the participants to the workshop and in his welcome address. He stressed on the need of capacity building for organic farming and gave a brief  outline on its present status  in the  country.  While iugurating the workshop, Dr. Niranjan Deka, Head of Krishi Viyan Kendra, gaon briefly explained the importance of organic farming in the context of climate change covering the principles of organic farming.  

Acting as resource person, Dr Debashish Bora, Senior scientist & Head, Krishi Viyan Kendra, Udalguri spoke on prospects of organic farming with local crop cultivars and on farm production of organic inputs.

Neelom Datta, an organic farmer of tiol repute and a recipient of ICAR Haladhar organic farmer award, 2014 also acted as resource person and shared his experience of farming in his certified organic farm located at Pabhoi in Biswath district.  He further elaborated the aspects like rice- fish farming, recycling of on- farm waste for soil health and crop magement and organic seed production, he added.

The workshop was attended by several extension functiories from Department of Agriculture, Sonitpur, Krishi Viyan Kendra scientists from gaon, Udalguri and Sonitpur districts, NGO members and a host of progressive farmers.
