Workshop on poetry held

TANGLA, Feb 22: With an aim to imbibe the essence on writing poetry along with awaring students on various poetic techniques and devices, a day long poetry workshop was held at the conference hall of Tangla College on Thursday. Speaking on the workshop as resource person, HOD of Assamese, Ghateswar Baruah said, “Poetry is a medium to express the common conscience of the society. Genuine poetry is one which strikes the mind and soul of the reader and generates a sense of passion and desire to inscript one’s feelings in the form of poem.” Baruah apprised the students on the various ages of poetry in Assamese literature. He further observed and defined poetry as something which enlivens the mind and soul.

“The erosion of values, loss of spiritual sense, moral corruption in the society can be treated by poetry, ” Baruah added. Speaking on the ocassion eminent short story writer Jayanta Kr. Chakravorty said, “ Sensible human beings with feelings ought to love poetry.” Chakravarty apprised the students on the various poetic types and techniques. The programme organized by IQAC Literary cell of the college was presided by eminent short story writer, Prof. Jayanta Kr. Chakravorty and iugurated by Vice-Principal Dr. Anjali Chakravorty was attended by a large number of students.
