World-class makeover for Kamakhya Railway Station

Guwahati: In a first-of-its-kind makeover for the Guwahati based railway station which hosts a number of important trains that runs in and out of the state, Kamakhya railway station looks super cool and comfy in its new look. An initiative taken by the Northeast Frontier (NF) Railway, in keeping with one of the most popular and widely visited events in the state, the Ambubachi Mela in Kamakhya temple, this new move by the authority is certainly commendable. The passengers commuting through Indian railways to arrive and depart the Kamakhya railway station have, undoubtedly, loved the particularly comfortable and friendly atmosphere inside the station.

The railway authority implemented a series of passenger amenities to make sure that the passengers can relax, take rest, feel fresh and travel comfortably while waiting for their respective trains.

This joint effort of the NF Railway with the Union tourism ministry has resulted in adding 10 retiring rooms that have free Wi-Fi facilities, AC and TV set in it.

A press release by the railway authority states that there are 10-bedded dormitories each for women and men passengers in the station itself. Each of these dormitories has TV sets, Wi-Fi facilities and AC in it.

In addition to this, a waiting hall has also been designed that has a capacity of accommodating 120 passengers. This waiting hall has facilities like digital display system, mobile charging points, AC, free Wi-Fi, separate male/female washrooms, drinking water and TV. Moreover, the passengers are free to give their feedback or any necessary recommendation to the authority by dropping their view in the feedback system. The well-stocked cafeteria in the hall is another added amenity.

Other ongoing works of the railway station include the construction of a cloak room along with the renovation of water booths and toilets.

As the Kamakhya junction is the source station for a number of trains like Northeast Express, Kamakhya-Anand Vihar Express, Kamakhya Yesvantpur Express, Kamakhya- LTT Express and several other mail/express and passenger trains, this has been hosting thousands of passengers every day.
