World Environment Day celebrated in Digboi

Digboi, June 6: Indian Oil people and public in general observed World Environment Day in Digboi on Monday amidst active participation and zeal. Employees showcased their concern for the cause, based on the theme ‘Connecting People with ture’ and pledged to protect wildlife, ture and to avoid wasteful use of tural resources. In the presence of Mritunjoy Pramanik Executive Director (AOD), H S Dutta CGM (TS & HSE), Sukla Mistry CGM (T), Sund Pandey CGM (Vig), senior executives and employees, the pledge was administered in Assamese, Hindi and English languages. The Tri-lingual pledge was taken by employees simultaneously at the Digboi Refinery, General Office, Workshop, AOD Hospital, and zirating water treatment plant.

On Monday activities started early with tree plantation by the dignitaries at various desigted areas. An Environmental Fair ‘Paribesh Mela’ and public function were held at Paragdhar Chaliha Auditorium to involve the people of Digboi and around in the World Environment Day program. The concluding function of the World Environment Day saw participation from employees, Forest department officials, state government representatives, NGOs, media, school and college students and residents of Digboi town.

Noted engineer of some prized innovations Dr Uddhab Bharali was invited as the Chief Guest., who has committed his life and work to the cause of sustaible practices through innovative inventions. Dr Bharali has been the recipient of many prestigious awards like the ‘President’s Grassroots Innovation Award’, ‘Shristi Samman Award’, ‘Rashtriya Ekta Samman’ and many others. Executive Director (AOD)  Mritunjoy Pramanik felicitated him in presence of the dignitaries and large gathering. An issue of ‘Surya’ publication of HSE department was also released on the occasion.

Among other activities on World Environment Day 2017, the power and utilities department helped realize the action of releasing fish fingerlings in the zirating River and the water body in Digboi Golf Links. Swachh Bharat Abhiyan too was undertaken at AOD New Market.

Another popular event held under the umbrella of World Environment Day 2017 was the Earth Walk in which over 800 school children from 19 schools in and around Digboi participated. The senior members of the AOD Magement Mritunjoy Pramanik ED (AOD), H S Dutta CGM (TS&HSE), Sukla Mistry CGM (T) along with other senior executives of IOCL (AOD) encouraged the children with their presence and close interaction. This was stated in a press release.
