Silchar, June 5: With the sole motto of saving earth, World Environment Day was observed on Tuesday. The district administration of Cachar along with different state departments, civic bodies, organizations, NGOs, schools and colleges made sure that they do not give this day a miss. The occasion was to remind that reckless destruction of forest and its resources is playing havoc with human life. Timber tycoons and smugglers have become more than active to indulge in taking away the forest resources. The National Institute of Technology (NIT), Silchar, celebrated World Environment Day under the initiative of MHRD to spread environmental awareness based on the theme of ‘Beat Plastic Pollution’. A national conference on World Environment Day was organized at NITS on behalf of Silchar Municipal Board (SMB).

In addition to this, Premiere Coaching Classes, Silchar, Public Higher Secondary School, Silchar, Maheshwari Yuva Sangathan, Silchar and BJP Silchar block mandal committee among others celebrated this important day.

MLA Udharbond Mihir Kanti Shome attended a similar programme which was held at Madhura Market. The members of Tarapur Merchant Association with joint efforts from Udoyer Pothe, an NGO, organized saplings plantation programme at Shyamacharan Dev Vidyapith. The association planted medicinal neem plants in the school compound.
