World Laughter Day observed

Tezpur, May 1:  The Tezpur Laughing Club on Sunday observed World Laughter Day at Swahid Bakori here. Tezpur Laughing Club was formed in 2009 under the aegis of the senior citizens of the historic Tezpur town, Haren th and Rabin Sharma. It has been observing World Laughter Day since its inception on every first Sunday of May.

The club started with only two members and now has 131 members. To mark the day, Tezpur Laughing Club organized a special function which had programmes like solo acting by Mantri Kalita and magic by noted magician of Tezpur, Bijay Sharma, founder of Bhumika Magic Corner.  

The function started in the morning at 7 am with the unfurling of the flag of Tezpur Laughing Club and a chorus directed by Anil Kumar Bora. It was attended by noted persolities like Dr. Biswa Ranjan Kalita, Dr. Satish Chandra Bhattacharya, Nirud Chowdhury, Dr. Syama Saikia and members of the club.

Emphasizing the importance of the day, Dr Biswa Ranjan Kalita in his speech as chief guest said that laughing was a good way of keeping oneself healthy. Dr Satish Chandra Bhattacharya said that the most valuable medicine for health which could be achieved free of cost was laughing, while Nirud Chowdhury said that he was still young at 70 years, only because of laughing.
