World Suicide Prevention Day observed

Jowai, Sept 12: World Suicide Prevention Day was observed in Jowai by SAN-KE on September 10 at Chutwakhu Indoor Hall with the theme, “Connect, Communicate, and Care”. The Suicide Prevention Day was organized to raise awareness that suicide can be prevented.

West Jaintia Hills Superintendent of Police (SP) R Muthu flagged off the cycle rally at 4th Mile. The SP himself also took part in the cycle rally along with a large number of participants to support the cause from 4th Mile to Jrisalen Playground, Chutwakhu, Jowai.

An awareness programme was organised in the Chutwakhu Indoor Hall in which the audience were welcomed by Dr. Sandi Syiem. He also gave a presentation on counseling for survivors, highlighting on the steps required to help those families who had encounter such cases.

The Shillong Times Editor Patricia Mukhim in her speech urged the gathering to show their love and care to those families instead of asking many questions.            

Jowai DSP, P.Syiem speaking at the function, called upon every individual to join hands to eradicate and to prevent suicide cases to happen. He further informed that in West Jaintia Hills this year 2016, 53 suicide case has been registered out of them 11 are females and 42 are males.
