World TB Day observed at Tezpur, Golaghat

TEZPUR, March 24: The World TB Day was observed today at District TB Centre here at Tezpur Kaklata Civil Hospital. 
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Anjumoni Chetia, in-charge District TB Officer, Sonitpur district, said, “There is sure serious need to raise public awareness about the spread of the disease which is treatable and preventable. We must unite to end TB by identifying and treating patients.”
She further said that government has taken strong measures to control the disease and save thousands of previous lives.
However, persons with compromised immune systems, such as people living with HIV, malnutrition or diabetes, or people who use tobacco, have a much higher risk of falling ill.
According to official sources, as many as 2915 cases of Tuberculosis has been detected in Sonitpur district  comprising Tezpur and Biswath and Gohpur sub division and all the TB positive patients are getting treatment under DOTS. 
The multi-drug resistance (MDR) TB case in 2016 is 36. “Total MDR cases registered from inception of DOT’s programme since 2012 is 207 in Sonitpur district. The district TB center is functioning with 85 percent success rate among the positive TB cases and 5 percent default cases,” sources said.
GOLAGHAT: Like the other parts of the globe, the World TB Day was observed today in Golaghat also. On the occasion an awareness rally was taken out under the aegis of Golaghat Health Society and IRCTC. In the rally Health department officials, members of NGOs, school and college students took part and street plays were also performed to create awareness among the masses regarding the Tuberculosis.
