World Tourism Day observed at Kaziranga

BOKAKHAT, September 28: “Tourists from different countries of the world visit Kaziranga not to see buildings but to enjoy the rare species of wild animals in the tural atmosphere. They also like to study the lifestyle of the ethnic people and their colourful culture. But few people here, instead of creating  healthy tourism, are destroying the tural environment by building luxurious lodges, dhabas and resorts for their vested interests only ,” said  jourlist Anuradha Sharma Puzari  at a meeting organized by the Tourism Department at the Kohora Convention Centre on occasion of World Tourism Day. Puzari also lamented that medical service in Kaziranga was not sufficient. “Without medical services tourism cannot attain perfection,” she said. On the occasion a colourful procession was flagged off by DFO Swapan Sheal Sharma. In the open meeting, which was presided over by Deputy Director Nobin Sharma, and attended by Dr Jayanta Gogoi, Principal JDSG College, artiste Khanjan th and Prati Bora, Rupjyoti Saikia and Nipon Saikia were awarded for their contribution towards tourism development. Gautam Phukan, the first prize winner of an essay competition held on the occasion was also awarded in the meeting.
