World Veterinary Day observed

RANGIA, April 29:  World Veterinary Day was observed with a day-long programme centrally here at Raijmel Krishak  Swahid Bhavan at Rangia in Kamrup  district on Saturday. The programme was organized under the aegis of Assam Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Service Association (AAHVSA) and in association with Intus Pharmaceuticals. The event was inaugurated by State Irrigation and Revenue Minister (independent charge) and local MLA Bhabesh Kalita by lighting the lamp. The minister spoke about the importance of the day and expatriated the need to care for animal resources.  Later, a free vaccination camp for cattle and pets was held. A number of animals were vaccinated and provided treatment by veterinary specialists. Besides, an awareness meet and open session on the focal theme of security and rearing aspects of cattle was held. It was moderated by noted scientist from AAU, Khanapara,  Dr Rabindranath Goswami.

Earlier,  retired officials and other senior employees of the veterinary and animal husbandry department and hundreds of farmers, including poultry owners, were felicitated with gamosa. Free medicines were also distributed among the farmers on the occasion. A seminar on the subject ‘The Role of the veterinary profession in sustainable development to improve livelihoods, food security and safety’ was also organized to mark the day.
