World Zoonoses Day observed

DIPHU, July 8: Animal Husbandry & Veteriry Department, Karbi Anglong organized a 10-day long awareness campaign starting from July 6 synchronizing with the celebration of World Zoonoses Day. During the awareness campaign, anti-rabies vaccition and health check-up for dogs were also conducted free of cost.  The free vaccition camp was held at the state veteriry dispensary, Rongkhelan, Diphu here today.  Dr Dilip Mahanta, District Veteriry Officer, Karbi Anglong iugurated the camp in presence of veteriry surgeons and staffs. While iugurating the anti-rabies vaccition programme, Dr Dilip Mahanta highlighted the significance of the celebration of the World Zoonosis Day. He said that free anti-rabies vaccition was organized to protect pet dogs from rabies infection by another rabies infected dogs. Large numbers of dogs and puppies were brought and given vaccition. According to report more than 150 dogs were vaccited till the evening. However, vaccition camp has been extended for next day for the demand of public, Dr. Mahanta said. Around 17 Veteriry surgeons including officials and staffs of Veteriry department took active part in the camp.
