Would history repeat itself: Pakistan score tally identical with 1992 world cup so far

Guwahati: Pakistan certainly is not playing as per its plans with continued defeats and just two matches being won so far. Though this sounds disheartening both for the team and its fans, the score tally of the team so far in the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup has given some a reason to cheer up and hope for a miracle as well.

Whether you say it a coincidence or a planned move, the Pakistan cricket team’s performance in this World Cup season is going just the same as it was in the 1992 World Cup cricket. Although the team is yet to play another match for a semi-finalist team to be chosen, so far, it can be seen that the match scores are very much relatable to the records of 1992, the year when Pakistan had lifted the World Cup trophy.

Does this also mean that Pakistan has a very chance of lifting the World Cup title this season as well! However, one cannot be so sure yet and the speculations may go wrong as well. The team that played in the 1992 tournament were different and the present team too is different and that carried the greater significance at this moment. A team may perform identically at some point of time but that does not mean that the entire 11 players will play identical to those match winning 11 players of the yesteryears. The team had a different spirit under Imran Khan’s leadership and the present team led by Sarfaraz Khan too has a different game sprit and there lies all the difference,

Recalling the magical moment created by team Pakistan in 1992 World cup against New Zealand, former Pakistani cricketer Wasim Akram says, “They were unbeaten in 1992 too before playing against us and we won the game.” He added, “They’re (New Zealand) unbeaten again and I hope we repeat the show, but boys will have to give their best.”
