Wushu event to start today

SHILLONG, Feb 6: The Wushu event of the 12th South Asian Games 2016 will begin tomorrow at the Assam Rifles’ Rising Sun Sports Complex here.

In all, six countries will participate in this competition - Afghanistan, Bangladesh, India, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.

The Indian contigent for the Wushu event consists of 20 members - six female wushuists, 10 male wushuists, three coaches and a doctor.

In the last South Asian Games in 2010, India was the champion and this time they are hoping for 10 gold medals. In the last edition of the Games, Bangladesh maged to win four medals - two gold (one for Taolu and one for Sanshou) and two bronze for Sanshou.

Tomorrow’s event includes Taolu men-changquan and nquan and women-changquan and nquan which is headed by the Sanshou quarter fil bouts - men 52kg, 56kg, 60kg, 65kg, 70kg and 75kg.
