Buenos Aires, Feb 15: Young Austrian tennis player Dominic Thiem won the Association of Tennis Professiols (ATP) Buenos Aires tourment, defeating Spaniard Nicolas Almagro.
The World No.19 who knocked out fifth seed Rafael dal of Spain, won 7-6 (2), 3-6 and 7-6 (4) after two hours and 28 minutes on Buenos Aires Lawn Tennis Club’s clay on Sunday.
The 22-year-old has obtained his first title in 2016 and the fourth in his career after winning in Gstaad (Switzerland), Umag (Croatia) and Nice (France) on the same surface in 2015.
With this victory, Thiem put a stop to Spain’s reign in the tourment as a Spaniard has won the tourment for the past seven years. Thiem is currently the youngest player in the top 20 of the world rankings. IANS
