LAKHIMPUR, July 8: In connection with the devastating flood caused by Singara river in Nowboicha Revenue Circle, the Lakhimpur district body of Brihattar Asomiya Yuva Mancha burnt the effigies of Lakhimpur MP Pradan Baruah and Nowboicha MLA Mamun Imdadul Haque Choudhury. The organization, under the aegis of its Nowboicha and Dolohat Phoolbari regional units, initiated the agitation programme on Sunday at Dolahat Tiniali under the flood-affected revenue circle, alleging that the two politicians were involved in safeguarding the illegal encroachers in the course of the river for their political gain. The illegal encroachment has caused massive flood in the area, blocking the river course and making the basin narrow.

Barun Bhuyan, the former Deputy Commissioner of Lakhimpur, though last year initiated steps to evict the encroachments, significantly it did not come into effect for unknown reasons. District president Chiranjit Bordoloi, working president Anupam Saikia, Dolohat Phoolbari president Dipen Borah, Nowboicha president Mrinal Baruah along with more than 50 activists of the organization took part in the programme.
