ITANAGAR, June 16: Hundreds of Arunachal Pradesh Youth Congress members Shouting ‘Bharat Bachao’ slogans, launched a bike rally from Nirjuli, 19km from here, early Saturday morning.

Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president Takam Sanjoy and AIYC national secretary Monalisa Banerjee, in-charge of the State, flagged off the rally named ‘Jan Andolan’, which proceeded to the State capital despite drizzling.

The APYC president Geli Ete and vice president Giogi Ganga and Banerjee on a scooty led the rally.

“With no governance, rising inflation and continuing negligence of the downtrodden sections of the society, it is high time to awaken the masses towards the harsh reality,” Sanjoy and Banerjee said. “And that is why we have taken out the rally,” Ete pitched in. However, as the police prohibited the rally along NH-415 on the ground that the District Magistrate had refused permission it led to a commotion between Sanjoy and the police officers on duty.

Sanjoy said that permission was sought two weeks ago, and added that “but denying permission on the spot without any prior intimation amounted to provocation.” “It is a democratic country and we cannot be prohibited from bringing out a rally just because the Vice President arrived here a day in advance. It is injustice,” rued Sanjoy.

“We will not tolerate such political discrimination by the administration of the ruling BJP Government,” stated APCC vice president Mikir Lollen, to which support was rendered by the party’s general secretaries Charu Tuglo, Tamchi Tahar and None Tayeng.
