Youth held for molestation in Sivasagar district

Joysagar: Halwating Police of Sivasagar district arrested a youth from Halwagaon near Tifuk Tea Estate of Amguri, Sivasagar on Wednesday. The youth was identified as Kushal Gogoi (24). Sources informed that the accused allegedly molested a minor girl of the tea estate on Tuesday evening when she was returning alone from a local grocery shop. Halwating Police held the accused following an FIR lodged by the parents of the victim.

Meanwhile, in a similar incident that allegedly took place in Joysagar, an inmate of the orphanage Swapnalaya tried to kill herself fearing shame and social stigma after she was allegedly raped on Tuesday night inside the orphanage by a member of the management board of the orphanage. The girl is a minor.

Sivasagar district Lachit Sena, Aaikyo Sena and other social organizations staged a massive protest against this heinous crime which drove the victim to the point of attempting suicide. Sources informed that the victim was quickly shifted to Joysagar Civil Hospital and she was undergoing treatment. Leaders of local organizations assembled in front of the hospital on Wednesday and demanded arrest of the accused. Sivasagar Police rushed to the spot and managed to control the situation.
