Youth killed at Dokmoka, protesters block NH-36

HOWRAGHAT, April 18: A sensatiol situation prevailed at Dokmoka on Monday following the alleged brutal killing of a youth. Large number of protesters came out along NH-36 at Dokmoka and staged a dhar in front of Dokmoka police station.

The NH-36 was also blocked for about 3-4 hours by the protesters demanding immediate arrest of Prab (Mithu) Das’s murderers. The angry mob shouted anti-Assam Police slogans alleging failure to ensure security to the public at Dokmoka as well as Dengaon areas.

The situation was brought under control later on the basis of the assurance that the culprits would be bbed, given by Debojit Deory, Superintendent of Police. Police have already started investigation to apprehend the group of hooligans who brutally killed Prab (Mithu) Das (22).

The incident took place following an alleged love affair between Das and a Karbi girl. According to report available, Prab Das was an inhabitant of Dengaon under Dokmoka police station and he was a motor bike mechanic by profession who fell in love with a Karbi girl about two months back.

On Sunday some Karbi youths allegedly called Prab Das out of his house and took him away to an Irrigation Bungalow near the house where Das was allegedly beaten brutally. As Das’ condition turned critical, he was admitted to Dokmoka Primary Health Centre (PHC) but he died as soon as he was admitted in the health centre.

The house and property of Das were completely vandalized and damaged by the group of hooligans. Das’ mother alleged negligence of police in ensuring security.  Besides, the protesters also alleged police of seriously failing to provide security to the public at Dokomka and Dengaon.

On the other hand, the brother of the girl lodged an FIR at Dokmoka police station on Sunday against Prab Das leveling allegation of rape of his sister.
