LAKHIMPUR: "Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is all set to field contestants in the upcoming Gaon Panchayat election of Assam. Our party will field candidates in all the seats of the State in next Lok Sabha Election."

This statement was made by Bhaben Choudhury, the Assam State president of AAP, in Lakhimpur on Friday. He made the statement while addressing a press conference convened at North Lakhimpur Press Club in the presence of AAP State Committee treasurer Akash Sarmah, zonal organizing secretary Nabajyoti Chetia, Minority Morcha coordinator Rajiv Ahmed, and other party leaders.

Notably, following the landslide victory in the Punjab Assembly Elections, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), led by Arvind Kejriwal, is looking to expand its footprints across the nation. At present, the party has initiated a massive membership drive in almost all the States to strengthen the organizational base.

"We have continued this membership drive across Assam too. Our party has targeted to accord membership to 10 lakh people during the campaign in the State. This campaign will last until May 31. People of Assam have started showing interest in the politics of our party. We are receiving an unprecedented response from people of the State. Our membership campaign will be penetrating deep into the rural areas among the common people irrespective of their caste and creed, religion and faith," Bhaben Choudhury further stated while addressing the media persons.

AAP is eyeing to establish itself as a worthy opposition to the BJP-led government in the State following a surprise victory in two seats in the recent Municipal Board Election. The party has bagged one seat in North Lakhimpur Municipal Board while it has won another seat in Tinsukia Municipal Board. On the other hand, the party has bagged one seat in the Guwahati Municipal Corporation election while it has come second in 25 wards.

While remarking on the Guwahati Municipal Corporation election, Bhaben Choudhury said, "The people of Guwahati voted for our candidates beyond our expectation. We want to bring a change in the present politics of Assam as well as of the nation. So, we have called upon the people of the State to be a part of the revolution."

In the press conference, the Assam State AAP president further said that secularism, mitigation of unemployment problem would be the pivotal issues of the party. "We will oppose the enforcement of the CAA (Citizenship Amendment Act, 2020). Our party is in favour of mini river dam projects instead of mega river dam projects like Subansiri Lower Hydroelectric Project. Such projects will not benefit our State," Bhaben Choudhury added.

He criticized Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in the press conference. "At present, there is only one minister in the State Government and he is Himanta Biswa Sarma. Others are only his assistants. They cannot make even a single announcement about their departments," he said. He declared that AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal would visit Assam in May 29 for organizational campaign.
