The Agarwal Sabha in Guwahati, Assam has recently brought a proposal before the Guwahati Municipal Board (GMC) regarding the change in name of the T-Junction of Kamrup Chamber Road attached with Jail Road as 'Maharaja Agrasen Chowk.'

This proposal by the Agarwal Shaba of renaming the T-Junction of Kamrup Chamber Road with Jail Road as 'Maharaja Agrasen Chowk' has led to massive controversies in social media mainly among Twitter users as the given name comes after the name of Maharaja Agrasen, a Kshatriya King.

Following the proposal Guwahati Municipality Corporation (GMC) on Thursday released a notification informing about filing objections and queries by the people of the Guwahati city on naming the T-Junction of Kamrup Chamber Road with Jail Road into a new name as 'Maharaja Agrasen Chowk.'

The notice reads that the Agarwal Sabha has urged before the Guwahati Municipal Board and the GMC has proposed naming the T-Junction of Kamrup Chamber Road with Jail Road as 'Maharaja Agrasen Chowk.'

GMC added that if anyone has any objection regarding this particular issue they can communicate the same to the Commissioner of GMC, Panbazar in Guwahati within the time period of 15 days of this published notice.

Just a few minutes after the notice issued by GMC a social media user shared the image of the publication on Twitter asking about the role of Maharaja Agrasen in the history and culture of the state Assam. Numerous users on Twitter started tweeting and retweeting on the issue sharing different opinions and creating a huge controversy.

Maharaja Agrasen born in the 35th generation after Lord Ram was an Indian Kshatriya King from Suryavanshi or Solar dynasty. He is believed to be the descendants of Kush, Son of Lord Rama and was the ruler of the Agroha, the city of traders which is located in Hisar in the area of Haryana.

Maharaja Agrasen chooses the Vanika Dharma for the betterment of his people Agrawal which means the children of Agrasen or the people of Agroha, the city said to be founded by Agrasen.
