ITANAGAR: Altogether 12 of the 19 samples collected in Arunachal Pradesh for COVID-19 tests, are negative, a health official said here on Sunday.

Responding to the news aired by one National TV channel on Sunday morning informing that seven coronavirus positive cases were detected in Arunachal Pradesh, State Surveillance Officer (Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme) Dr L Jampa clarified that not a single positive case had been detected in the State so far.

He added that one sample collected from the Tomo Riba Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (TRIHMS) here and another from Kurung Kumey district were sent to Dibrugarh in Assam for COVID-19 test on Sunday whose reports would be available by Monday.

Dr Jampa, however, pointed out that “till Saturday out of the total 19 samples tested, results of only 12 were available while that of seven were awaited.”

Referring to the news, he added, “It is a miscommunication at the higher level of the TV channel due to typo error for which the news was aired.”

A national news channel on Sunday aired the news before the monthly radio programme ‘Mann Ki Baat’ of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The news created panic among the denizens of the State, prompting Chief Minister Pema Khandu to immediately respond in social media to clarify that none of the samples have tested positive.

The Chief Minister regularly uses social media to update people on important decisions and news regarding the State.
