ROING: Altogether 15 Self Help Groups (SHGs) have been awarded by the Arunachal State Rural Livelihood Mission (ArSRLM), Block Mission Management Unit (BMMU) and the Arunachal Pradesh Rural Bank (APRB), Roing, for promoting livelihood activities in the Lower Dibang Valley district.

During a felicitation programme held at Anchal Samity Hall, here on Tuesday, each of following SHGs was given a citation and cash award of Rs one lakh by the ArSLM: Sirung, Ruth, Lune Ponung, Ome Birme, Jena, Aayame, Khinusha, Ane Sirum, Aduya Miya, Ajime, Arsang, Liksum Ane, Giiyi, Nyamne and Pasi SHG.

While congratulating the Self Help Groups on their achievements, Deputy Commissioner Mitali Namchoom praised them for creating opportunities on economic independence and empowerment and working beyond the confines and duties of the family and household. She also appreciated ArSRLM for giving a meaning and direction to the women of the area through livelihood activities and praised the APRB for being proactive in helping the rural folk by providing small loans to SHGs and farmers.

"The change in mindset, confidence, excellent performance and good track record in management of funds has changed the view of the banks in providing loans to SHGs," she said adding that the SHG has full support from the state government and district administration for their future endeavors.

Block Mission Manager (ArSRLM), William Lahary detailed the various achievements of ArSRLM in the district and also other aid and loans provided by the government to the SHGs. He expressed his satisfaction over the slowing down of dependence of the SHGs on the government, which is the ultimate aim of the programme.

APRB Branch Manager PB Chettry spoke on the training provided to the SHGs on the loan process, management of funds and repayment system. "Our bank has a mission to provide door to door banking to the poor and needy rural population and will start 18 CSPs shortly in the district," he said, informing that the bank has also approved loans to 31 SHGs in the district.
