2nd edition of Jumi Rike Ete memorial veteran football tourney begins
Itanagar: The second edition of Jumi Rike Ete Memorial veteran football tournament with the theme ‘Football for Health and Sportsmanship Spirit’ got off to a flying start at Government HS School ground at Aalo in West Siang district on Monday.
The tournament sponsored by engineer Jumge Ete in fond memory of his loving mother and organised under the banner of District Sports Association and District Football Association is being participated by eight veteran teams of the district.
Attending the inaugural ceremony Topin Ete hailed the tournament as eye opener for the youths to draw inspiration from the players who donned West Siang colour in the past and brought laurel for the district.
He urged the young players to emulate their feats and take up games and sports with professional approaches to reap the benefits of Sports Policy formulated by the government.
District Information and Public Relation Officer (DIPRO) Gijum Tali spoke on the importance games and sports.
In the opening match of the tournament Aalo United Veteran beat Bene Veteran by 4-1 goals.
Two minutes silence was also observed as a mark of respect to the departed soul of Jumi Rike Ete before the commencement of the tournament, an official release informed here on Tuesday.
