ITANAGAR: A mild earthquake measuring 3.5 on the Richter scale was detected in Arunachal Pradesh's Shi Yomi at 2:38 PM on March 31. This was reported by the National Center for Seismology (NCS) in a post on its official 'X' handle.

As per the NCS, the tremors were felt at a depth of 10 km, with its epicenter pinpointed to latitude 28.88°N and longitude 94.34°E.

This quake happened to be the second earthquake to have struck the northeastern region in the last four days.

Earlier last week, a mild quake, measuring 3.8 on the Richter scale, shook Manipur’s Noney district and adjoining areas on Saturday, officials said.  The disaster management officials of the state said that there was no immediate report of loss of life or damage to property due to the earthquake.

As per the National Centre for Seismology (NCS) data, the tremor struck at a depth of 10 km from the surface.

Saturday’s tremor was the second earthquake in the mountainous northeastern state within 20 hours. On Friday evening, a similar mild tremor, measuring 3.7 on the Richter scale, struck the state’s Chandel district and adjoining areas, which shares a border with Myanmar. 

The series of earthquakes comes in the aftermath of a massive earthquake epicentred in Myanmar that left behind a trail of destruction far beyond its borders.

Measuring 7.7 on the richter scale, the quake which occurred on March 28 caused destruction of various properties and houses and claimed a large number of lives.
