ITANAGAR: More than 400 persons were detained and sent back during an Inner Line Permit (ILP) checking organized within the twin capital by the All Nyishi Student Union (ANSU) along with the district administration and the police department on Monday.

Speaking to the reporters, ANSU president Toko Takam said that since morning today, with the help of the district administration and the police department, the ANSU carried out the ILP check at the 13 locations of Itanagar and Naharlagun.

He said that the defaulter were kept in the police stations and further, through more verification, they were sent back. It was made sure by the ANSU that all the defaulters were sent back to their respective places, he added.

“This drive is not for individual benefit but for the greater interest of the State,” he said while adding that “due to the NRC in the neighbouring State of Assam, many entered the Arunachal Pradesh without proper ILP, which is mandatory.”

Takam also requested the people of State to bring labourers through proper channels. The people who bring labourers from the nearby State should make sure that they have proper Inner Line Permit.

“One should get labour for various construction and other domestic work in the State through after proper verification thorough department concerned ,” he added.

Meanwhile, ANSU general secretary Tukbom Ligu said that the union will soon submit a letter to the State for thorough checking of ILP at various check-points of the State along the Assam-Arunachal boundary.

“It is known that in many cases, people are allowed to enter the State just by paying cash without obtaining ILP in the check- gates. This is very careless attitude by a few police personnel and we will also initiate talks with the district administration and the police department on the matter,” he added.

He also said that one should obtain ILP, be the person a government employee, student or officer to enter the State. This is framed rule in the BEFR Act 1873, to which every visitor to the State should follow.
