ITANAGAR: Arunachal Pradesh on Friday reported 449 fresh COVID-19 cases, the highest single-day spike so far this month, with the virus tally climbing to 58,271, a senior Health Department official said.

The State had logged 435 infections on Thursday.

Among others, the fresh count included 172 cases were registered in the Capital Complex Region, 47 in Namsai, 40 in Papumpare, 35 in West Kameng, 29 in Changlang, 28 in Lohit, 22 in East Siang and 18 in West Siang, the official said.

Two Army personnel and an official of the NDRF are among the fresh cases, he said.

The death toll remained at 282 as no fresh fatality was reported in the past 24 hours, State Surveillance Officer (SSO) Dr Lobsang Jampa said.

As many as 55,729 people have recuperated from the disease so far, including 127 on Thursday, Jampa said, adding that the recovery rate in the Northeastern State remained at 95.64%.

Among the new cases, 402 were detected through the rapid antigen test (RAT), 21 through RT-PCR process and 26 through TrueNAT methods, the SSO said, adding that 195 of them have developed COVID-19 symptoms.

Arunachal Pradesh now has 2,260 active cases.

The State has been witnessing a spurt in infections since January 4, with 2,919 new cases reported so far.

The Capital Complex Region, comprising Itanagar, Naharlagun, Nirjuli and Banderdewa areas, has the highest number of active cases at 816, followed by West Kameng (255), Changlang (203), Namsai (167), Lower Dibang Valley (121), Papumpare (119) and Lohit (118).

A total of 12,22,928 samples have been tested for Covid-19 in the state, including 1,638 on Thursday, the official said.

State Immunisation Officer Dr Dimong Padung said that a total of 15,53,932 people have been inoculated so far in the State.

At least 43,574 beneficiaries in the age group of 15-18 years have been vaccinated with the first dose and 10,987 senior citizens have received the booster jab.
