48-Hour Capital Bandh Cripples Normal Life in Itanagar

Itanagar: Normal life in Itanagar was badly affected on Thursday following the 48-hour capital bandh called by a conglomeration of 18 organizations demanding rectification in the government constituted Joint High Power Committee’s (JHPC) recommendations on the permanent resident certificate (PRC) issue.

The bandh call has been given to oppose grant of PRC to six non-Arunachalee communities living in Namsai and Changlang districts of the State.

The JHPC has already submitted its recommendations to the State Government which would be tabled in the Assembly during the ongoing three-day session.

The bandh was total, as all business establishments, markets and banks downed their shutters while public and private vehicles were off the road. Long distance buses also cancelled their journey, police said.

Heavy machineries of M/s T K Engineering Enterprises working on prioritized four-lanning of NH-415 were also off the work.
