ITANAGAR: The Arunachal Pradesh Birding Club (APBC), imparting awareness among the local people to protect and conserve bird’s species in the state since its inception in 2009, successfully concluded its 2-day winter bird count event held at Palin, Kra-Daadi district.
The two-day winter bird count, which was held in the first week of November 2023, concluded with a count of 68 different species of birds, like the eye-breasted Wren babbler, Rufous-backed Sibia, lemon-rumped warbler, Himalayan Buzzard, white-crested Laughingthrush, and Ashy Drongo. Hill, Partridge, etc. were spotted during the count.
The programme was held with the support of the Kra-Daadi Forest Division, led by Range Forest Officer (RFO) Charu Noni and Tassar Ada, members of the Tassar Welfare Society (TWS).
The club teams have organised a series of awareness camps and workshops in the different forest areas of the state. Basically, the motive of the club is to count birds in vulnerable areas like community land and forest areas where illegal hunting is rampant.
In the past, a series of bird counts were carried out in collaboration with local NGOs in Basar, Pasighat, Ziro, Raga Lungla, and Zemithang. The milestone achievement of the club is the launching of Ziro Birds Walk (ZBW) back in the year 2019 by involving the community in a bird walk once a month till date, which has become talked about by the state in conservation context.
