AAPSU demands withdrawal of non-indigenous party seats in Changlang, Arunachal

Itanagar: The All Arunachal Pradesh Students' Union (AAPSU ) condemned Arunachal Pradesh BJP for issuing tickets for Zila Parishad to non-indigenous names for ensuing Panchayat election 2020.

The students' body has been apprising the government about its inclusion of non-indigenous in the state electoral politics in local bodies. It has also apprised about the deletion of voting rights of refugees in the state. AAPSU said that the government is playing with the sentiments of the indigenous people by issuing a party ticket to non-indigenous person.

The students' body has requested the political parties of the state to not issue any ticket to any non-APST in Arunachal. The union also demanded the withdrawal of the two non-indigenous candidates in Changlang district. They have given two days ultimatum for the withdrawal of the party tickets. If BJP fails to do that, the union would carry out democratic movement across the State.

The Arunachal Pradesh Land Settlement Act, 2000, says that "residents mean an indigenous person ordinarily residing in a village or area; Therefore, there is no space for the participation of non-indigenous in local body elections.'

AAPSU had asked all the District Students' Union and other students' organisation to gear up for the democratic movement.
