Abducted petrol depot employee from Namsai district released after 21 days

ITANAGAR: A petrol pump employee, who was abducted at gunpoint by unidentified miscreants on April 26 from Namsai district in Arunachal Pradesh, was released Tuesday morning after 21 days of captivity, police said.

Dinesh Sharma, the cashier of the petrol pump at Chongkham in the district, was released at Medo area under Wakro circle in Lohit district, Namsai Superintendent of Police (SP) Dr D W Thungon informed. “The abducted person is still in a state of shock and investigation is on to identify the group behind the abduction,” he said.

Sharma, who is working at Bharat Petroleum pump at Momong village in the district, was kidnapped by three gunmen at around 7.20 PM on April 26. The petrol pump belongs to Jenia Namchoom, a zila parishad member (ZPM).

The suspected militants also opened fire during the abduction which left one Mithai Marandi (28), the driver of the owner of the fuel outlet, critically injured and later succumbed to his injuries the next day at a hospital in Assam’s Dibrugarh district. Locals of the district have claimed ULFA (I) was behind the kidnapping.
