Adhere to Model Code of Conduct (MCC): General Observer Anwaruddin Choudhury

Itanagar: General Observer Anwaruddin Choudhury on Saturday held a detailed discussions with the representatives of political parties about the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) at DC office Pasighat in East Siang district. He urged them to follow the rules strictly, an official communique informed.
The meeting convened by the District Electoral Officer (DEO) Dr Kinny Singh, was attended by the candidates officers and representatives of several political parties. Choudhury asked the political parties to see prior permission from the designated officer for conducting any election-related campaign. The representatives were briefed by him about the latest instructions issued by the ECI for the conduct of upcoming General Elections and Model Code of Conduct. The DC laid stress on adherence of the MCC guidelines and their concerns related to upcoming Lok Sabha and Assembly elections.
MCC had come into force and no violation of MCC would be allowed at any stage of election process, she affirmed. Dr Singh sought co-operation from the political parties to uphold the glorious tradition of peaceful polls in the district by participating in a non-violent manner. Singh urged the representatives not to misuse government, public properties and educational institutions for election related purposes adding that Media Certification and Monitoring Committee (MCMC) would be looking after paid news and surrogate advertising which can be made an electoral offence.
She also explained about the benefit of using cVigil mobile application, through which the public can record and send any violation of Model Code of Conduct (MCC) to the election authorities for appropriate action, the communique added.
