ITANAGAR: Works on the Greenfield Airport in the Arunachal Pradesh capital, constructed by the Airports Authority of India (AAI), have been completed with test landing of aircraft and conduct of flight calibrations last month.

Various regulatory authority inspections have also been completed, State Civil Aviation secretary Swapnil Mahesh Naik informed on a communiqué on Wednesday.

The State Cabinet recently approved the name of the airport as Donyi Polo Airport.

The project was sanctioned by the Centre on January 18, 2019 under 'Capital Air Connectivity Scheme', as part of the Prime Minister's special package on infrastructure development in NE States.

As per the target, the major civil constructions have been achieved. AAI has completed the Package-I (runway and pavement work) and Package-II (construction of interim terminal building).

"As per the standard guidelines, AAI has organized various regulatory authority inspections and has successfully conducted flight calibrations and test landing of aircraft from July 19 to 21 last, besides inspection by Director General Civil Aviation (DGCA) officials."

Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) had also conducted inspections of the airport on August 4 last, the communiqué said.

As per procedure, after detailed inspections, observations made by these regulatory bodies are being compiled by AAI and State Government. It is being ensured that the airport would be ready for operations with all the safety measures in place.

Meanwhile, the State Government has also approached various airline operators for introduction of scheduled commercial flights from the airport to the rest of the country at the earliest, the communiqué added.
