Tumi Gangkak murder case
A CORRESPONDENT
ITANAGAR: The Mishmi Welfare Society (MWS) said that the repeated allegation by the Galo Welfare Society (GWS) against Bumchu Krong for his alleged involvement in the murder of Tumi Gangkak is illogical, unjustified, and moreover has raised security concerns.
Addressing the media at the press club on Thursday, the vice chairman of MWS, Sokhep Kri, said that the society is also concerned about the mysterious death of Gangkak, but harassing someone in the name of justice is not acceptable. Moreover, it is a breach of trust by GWS, as during the last meeting held between both societies under the Arunachal Indigenous Tribes Forum (AITF), it was decided not to rope in Inspector Bomchu Krong until the investigation is completed.
“We are not here to shield Inspector Bumchu Krong. We also demand a strong punishment if he is found guilty in this case. However, Krong should not be tagged as a murderer until proven guilty by the law,” Kri said. The Vice President of the Idu Mishmi Cultural and Literary Society (IMCLS), Akepi Linggi, said that GWS is framing the entire incident on a communal level. Despite the resolution in the tripartite meeting along with AITF to not tag Krong as a murderer until the completion of the investigation, society is repeatedly disregarding the resolution. He said somewhere in the MWS there is the apprehension that some people are trying to take advantage of the incident to save other accused involved in the APPSC job scam.
“We all know that there are more than 46 people who were arrested by SIC/CBI, and among them, 17 are from the Galo community. So we have apprehension that the fight for justice took different turns now and they may be trying to save the other accused involved in the scam,” he claimed. Meanwhile, the Cultural and Literary Society of Mishmi (CALSOM) General Secretary, Suraj Tayang, further added that since day one of the allegations against Bumchu Krong by the GWS, so far the Mishmi society has remained silent and civil.
However, during the recent press briefing by the police department, it was informed that the police have not gathered any evidence that Krong was involved in the mysterious death of former APPSC Secretary Tumi Gangkak. Moreover, the postmortem report also reveals that the cause of death was asphyxia, resulting from hanging by a ligature.
“Now, why is the GWS reluctant to accept the reality of the entire episode despite the submission of the investigation report by the SIT of state police? Therefore, the MWS appealed to the GWS to avoid raising the name of Bumchu Krong through media briefing, thereby creating an atmosphere of insecurity for him,” he said. He said the case, which should be between Bumchu Krong and the police department, is being dragged between GWS and Krong. Besides, how can Krong be involved in the alleged murder without any motive?
“The SIC team was led by one DySP and supervised by SP Jimmy Chiram (IPS), and the PM was under the supervision of the deceased nephew; all are from the deceased community. So we fail to understand why they are not accepting the reports,” Tayang added. On February 24, Tumi Gangkak was found dead under mysterious circumstances near the Ganga Lake area, along the Jote-Poma road. His body was found hanging, with his wrists and Achilles tendons of both legs slit. Following this, the GWS accused Sub Inspector (SIC) Bumchu Krong of his involvement in the murder.
