Itanagar: Well aware that the State is famous for time-tested traditions and cultures reflected through folk dances and songs, American ballet dancer Ammy Darwin made attempts to draw parlance between traditional and western style dances.

This was experienced by anchor Bamang Amma, Noti Mangkhiya and Miter Kambu, who were among 40 Rajiv Gandhi University (RGU) students, to learn the basics of ballet dance taught by Darwin for two hours recently.

“Her teaching was highly thrilling but she asked us to perform traditional dances when she tried to find a link between both dance styles,” Amma said, adding that she had hinted about the necessity of a wooden base for practicing ballet.

“We are very happy to learn that she will be coming back again for about 15 days to teach us to excel in ballet,” they informed here on Friday, reflecting that Ammy Darwin left her indelible print in their minds.

Californian Darwin, who was on her maiden sojourn to Arunachal Pradesh to attend the two-day 37th foundation anniversary celebration of the RGU, visited Itanagar but was overwhelmed by the natural beauty of Apatani Plateau in Ziro, she informed over telephone from Ziro on Saturday.

She is scheduled to leave for Delhi to return to the USA.
