ITANAGAR: The All Nyishi Youth Association (ANYA) on Friday has appealed all political parties of the State not to allot party tickets to those Arunachalee women who have married non-tribal people in the ensuing Panchayat and Municipal polls, due next month.

The Panchayat and Municipal polls which was delayed for over two years, is scheduled to be held simultaneously in a single phase on December 22 next.

The ANYA said that if tickets are allotted to such women, there is possibility of diluting the rights of the indigenous people, integrity, development and welfare of the State.

The association urged all the parties to take its appeal seriously for the larger interest of the indigenous population of the State.

Many organizations in the State are opposing ST status to the children of Arunachalee women who have married to non-tribal men.

Public notice for panchayat and municipal polls would be issued by returning officers on November 24 next, while last date of filing nomination papers is December 2. Scrutiny of papers would be held on December 4 and the last date of withdrawal of nominations is December 7. Counting of votes would be held on December 26 and the entire process of the election would be completed by December 31.

Arunachal Pradesh has 25 Zilla Parishads with 241 Zilla Parishad constituencies and 2,215 Gram Panchayats with 8,436 constituencies. There are two municipal bodies in the state including Itanagar Municipal Corporation with 20 wards and Pasighat Municipality with 8 wards.

Altogether 7,39,284 electorates will exercise their franchise in 2,175 polling booths for both Panchayat and Municipal polls.

EVMs would be used for municipal body elections while ballot boxes would be used for panchayat polls as this would be the first general election after conversion from three tier panchayats to two tier system in the state.
