APPSC fiasco: People's Party of Arunachal alleges CBI probe is not transparent

ITANAGAR: The People's Party of Arunachal (PPA) has expressed resentment over the manner in which the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is conducting its investigation into the Arunachal Pradesh Public Service Commission (APPSC) question paper leak issue.

The party on Wednesday alleged that the current investigation by the Central agency is not being done in a transparent manner.

A team of the party led by its secretary general Kaling Jerang had visited the CBI office here on Tuesday but was denied access to the CBI officials after one of the staff came to take his identification.

"The CBI officials investigating the matter had initially agreed and invited a few mediapersons to brief about the case on November 7 last. However, when the mediapersons reached its office, they were denied any audience and instead were asked to seek permission from Delhi," the party said in a statement here.

It was learnt from the people who met the CBI officials at their earlier office at Vivek Vihar here that the premier investigating agency of the country was not being allowed to assess Taket Jerang's properties and other dealings.

Condemning the State Government and the CBI for lack of transparency and public access, the PPA said that the CBI and other agencies should be accessible to everyone, including the media.

"People have the right to know the update of the investigation. Careers of the aspirants are at stake. What is the investigative agency doing? Was the CBI brought in to divert people's attention from the real issue or was it done to weaken the case? Why are they reluctant to face the media?" the party questioned.

The party stated that it has information about the systematic institutionalization of corruption which had been allegedly going on since the last many years at APPSC.

"It is impossible for Taket Jerang, the then deputy controller of exam, to have single-handedly carried out his nefarious activities without active involvement and patronage from his superiors and higher-ups," the PPA alleged.

The party demanded that the State Government should come clean on the issue.

"There is every possibility of involvement of the high offices in the State, including, the CMO, in the case. If there is even a hint of involvement, these offices should be called for questioning and their role, if any should be investigated," the party added.

The lone regional party of the state has demanded of the Government to convene an all-party meeting on the issue.
