APPSC Paper Leak: 72-hour bandh in Arunachal Pradesh, 17 People Detained, Section 144 Imposed Amid Protest

ITANAGAR: Internet service was suspended, and a 72-hour bandh was declared by a few Arunachal Pradesh local groups in protest of the Arunachal State Public Service Commission paper leak scam. Banks, educational institutions, and a few corporate organizations remained closed during the bandh, which began at 5 a.m.

Meanwhile, local police apprehended 17 people for violating the Arunachal Pradesh Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act 2014. Roads were mostly empty, with both governmental and private vehicles off the road due to the state's bandh.

After a mob vandalized the entry gate of the Naharlagun Police Station, the district administration imposed Section 144 and issued an order forbidding gatherings of more than three individuals.

The Arunachal Pradesh Public Service Commission (APPSC) paper leak scam has sparked outrage in the state, with major protests organized against it. Following that, the CBI took over the investigation and detained more than 50 people in the case.

The APPSC fraud, on the other hand, came to light after a candidate named Gyamar Padang, who appeared in the Assistant Engineer (Civil) exam, filed a complaint at the Itanagar Police Station on August 29, 2022. Gyamar passed away in Hyderabad in May after a protracted battle with sickness.

Furthermore, as a result of the inquiry, 54 people, including 41 government personnel, were arrested in connection with the paper leak scheme. 22 regular employees were subjected to disciplinary action.

The case was then turned over to the CBI and the Enforcement Directorate by the Arunachal Pradesh government for further investigation.

The Arunachal Pradesh unit of the North East Human Rights Organisation (NEHRO) has filed a complaint with the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), urging that it take robust action in the wake of the Arunachal Pradesh Public Service Commission (APPSC) paper leak scandal.

The question paper for the APPSC's Assistant Engineer (Civil) exam, which was held on August 26 and 27, was leaked in 2022.
