Itanagar: The 24x7 new Doordarshan channel – Arun Prabha, to be launched here by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday, will meet the long-felt aspiration of the people of Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim, DD additional director general (programme) PK Subash said here on Friday.
“DD now has 16 regional channels and Arun Prabha will be 17th one besides the existing seven national channels,” Subash said while interacting with the media.
He added that a DD team from New Delhi arrived here with an OB van, technical and programme teams. Guwahati DD, NE region ADG (engineering), PB Bhattacharjee along with assistant directors Mukul Talukdar and Deepak Samra have also arrived.
All of them are on their toes for the success of the event while DD director general Supriya Sahu is expected to arrive to oversee the preparation.
Sahu had visited DDK on January 6, 2017 to announce the launch of Arun Prabha and exhorted the film producers and directors to come up with innovative proposals for programmes, serials, telefilms and documentaries. She had assured that proposals, especially by Arunachal and Sikkim filmmakers, would be given top priority.
Arun Prabha is the second exclusive DD channel for the North-East. The State-owned broadcaster runs DD North-East which telecasts entertainment and information-based programmes in Assamese, Bengali, English and other languages of the NE region.
The existing channel has not been able to meet the cultural needs of the region because of its cultural diversity, multiple languages and dialects for which Arun Prabha was conceived to fill the gap, Subash added.
