ITANAGAR: The All Arunachal Pradesh Youth Organization (AAPYO) has raised strong objections to what it claims is a move by the state government to legalize cannabis cultivation in the state. In a letter addressed to Chief Minister Pema Khandu, the organisation alleged that the government is working to frame policies favouring cannabis legalization without seeking public consent. AAPYO expressed concern over the absence of a clear drug control policy in the state and demanded an immediate halt to any such initiative. The youth body also called for full public disclosure of any official documents, schemes, or meetings related to the proposed legalization of cannabis cultivation. Further, AAPYO urged the government to conduct state-wide public consultations involving all stakeholders before taking any decision on the matter. It also demanded stronger government commitment toward anti-drug education and the expansion of rehabilitation programmes.
