ITANAGAR: Additional District Magistrate (ADM) – Talo Potom along with the representatives of the DC office and volunteers of Save Ganga Lake Mission visited Ganga Lake (Gyekar Syenek) to verify alleged earth cutting activities in the periphery of the lake, on Friday.

The news of earth cutting surfaced when one Tagru Punung uploaded the pictures of it on Facebook and called for support and the intervention of the district administration to save the Ganga Lake. Speaking to the reporters, Potom termed the earth cutting as “illegal” as it is unauthorized. Potom said that he had ordered to stop earth cutting as the person was not permitted for it. He also did not disclose the name of the encroacher though.

He also informed that even if a person is permitted for earth cutting, he/she should follow the direction of the administration or else the earth cutting can be stopped.

Potom said that a notice will also be served under- 145 CRPc to those who has encroached land within the catchment area of the lake and people who are using the land for agricultural purposes.

“If needed I will also invoke 133CRPc to those who indulge in illegal earth cutting and deforestation,” he said while requesting the Department of Forest to book the individuals under the Forest Act for sustainability of the case as 133 CRPC is a temporary section.
