Itanagar: In a significant outreach effort, the Arunachal Pradesh State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (APSCPCR) conducted a three-day Aadhaar registration camp specifically for Children with Special Needs (CWSNs), which concluded on Thursday.
The initiative was part of the follow-up to the Autism month celebration held earlier in April, this year.
Organized in collaboration with the economics and statistics department of Papum Pare district, the camp was held at multiple locations including Sacred Heart Convent & Day Care Centre in Itanagar, Toko Rehabilitation Centre in Naharlagun, and the APSCPCR office at Papu Nallah.
The camp was designed to support CWSNs registered in various special schools and therapy centres across the Itanagar capital region and nearby areas.
According to a statement by APSCPCR, 182 CWSNs had registered during the Autism month melebration in April, of whom 112 were issued Person with Disability (PwD) certificates and 14 received their Unique Disability ID (UDID) cards.
The recent Aadhaar registration camp aimed to assist the remaining children in completing their Aadhaar enrolment and obtaining UDID cards through the health and family welfare department.
Recognising the barriers many CWSNs face at regular Aadhaar centres, such as sensory sensitivities, communication difficulties, and environments not suited to their needs, the APSCPCR provided a more inclusive and supportive setting.
The camp ensured that every child, regardless of physical or cognitive ability, could access identification and the benefits linked to Aadhaar.
A total of 25 CWSNs were successfully enrolled during the three-day camp.
