ITANAGAR: Thousands of Christian believers from different denominations participated in the mass rally organized by the Arunachal Christian Forum (ACF) demanding the right to construct Church at Tawang on Friday.

Speaking to the media, President-ACF Toko Teki said, "We hope that Government will take steps to resolve the issue soon. The believers are not encroaching upon any private land, so the government should consider its decision and allow the Christian believers to construct the church".

Moreover, the report of the three-member committee is one-sided, he added.

Speaking on the occasion, Vice President- of ACF Norbu Sonam stated that they are not against the Buddhist or Monpa community but only demanding what is our rights. Some section of people here is trying to paint this event as a religious fight between Christian and Buddist, which is misguiding.

He also slammed both the MP East & West for being mute on the issue. Moreover, we have tried to meet Chief Minister many a time but to date not given any heeds to our demands.

"If attitude toward Christian community continues, then days are not far when the state will see unrest", Sonam said.

While quoting the Fact Finding reports, Khyoda Apik who is Chief Advisor and Former President -of ACF said that the Committee has cited a Supreme Court order, to obstruct the construction of the church at Tawang.

But, SC has cited that any worship places which are on public premises should be shifted, but Tawang church is not on public premises. If, the committee wants to obstruct the Church then should implement the SC rule equally and shift all the temples, Gompa, Mosque, and Gurudwara situated to public places, he added.

"We have allowed the Buddhist community to construct Gompa at Nyishi land (Capital area) whereas we don't have Buddhist believers, then why do people have objections when Christians want to build a church in Tawang," stated Apik.
