ITANAGAR: Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu has inaugurated three multi-level parking complexes in Itanagar, marking a major step to ease traffic and offer designated parking areas to locals. With a total value of Rs. 60 crore, the projects comprise a 108-bay Multi-Level Automated Car Parking at the Civil Secretariat and two other multi-storied parking buildings at the ESS Sector and the APSTS Bus Station in Ganga Market.
Several dignitaries, including Urban Development Minister Balo Raja, Itanagar MLA Techi Kaso, and Itanagar Municipal Corporation Mayor Tamme Phassang, attended the inauguration ceremony. This highlighted the importance of the project in enhancing the urban infrastructure of Itanagar.
Dahey Sangno, CEO of the Smart City Development Corporation, said that these parking lots are a part of a bigger Smart City project, with the Urban Development Department in charge of implementing two of the projects. The automated car parking at the Civil Secretariat, designed by NHIDCL and implemented by SIMPARK, has a capacity for 108 cars spread over ten floors, four of which are underground and six above ground. The complex also features a gym and cafeteria on the terrace level for the ease of Civil Secretariat employees.
The other two projects, approved in September 2017 under the Social Infrastructure Development Fund, were a 143-slot car park at ESS Sector and a four-storied building at the APSTS Bus Station with a car capacity of 100. Itanagar local leaders have promoted residents to park their vehicles at these new facilities to ease road congestion and urban mobility in the city.
