Arunachal district’s DDMA reviews monsoon preparedness

ITANAGAR: In a proactive move ahead of the monsoon season, the East Siang district disaster management authority (DDMA) in Arunachal Pradesh, convened a high-level preparedness meeting on Tuesday.

Key stakeholders including, the Army, Border Roads Organisation (BRO), paramilitary forces, administrative officers, heads of departments, SDRF personnel, and AAPDA mitra volunteers, participated to assess readiness and strengthen contingency plans.

Chairing the meeting, deputy commissioner and DDMA Chairman T Taggu stressed the importance of preparedness to tackle potential disasters. He urged all departments and agencies to be fully aware of their roles and responsibilities, referring to the recent devastation caused by the earthquake in Myanmar and Thailand as a reminder of unforeseen calamities.

The DC also called for a preventive approach to minimise loss of life, property, and infrastructure damage.

Superintendent of police highlighted the police department’s contingency response plan, emphasising their crucial role in emergency management.

District disaster management officer (DDMO) T Tashi outlined key disaster management measures, including the preparation of the district disaster management plan (DDMP), activation of the incident response system (IRS), identification of safe shelters, cleaning and desalting of drains, pre-emptive tree pruning, awareness campaigns, stocking essential supplies, and surveying lifeline buildings.

He urged all departments to draft and submit their updated contingency plans for incorporation into the DDMP.

Representatives from the military stations of Rayang and Sigar also shared their disaster preparedness strategies and provided valuable inputs for strengthening the district’s response mechanism.
