
ITANAGAR: The 10th edition of the Arunachal Film Festival, which started on Thursday at TNZ Cinema, organized by the Information & Public Relations (IPR) Department in collaboration with the Film Federation of Arunachal (FFA), is aimed at promoting the budding film industry in Arunachal Pradesh, with a special focus on films from the Northeast.
In his speech, Education Minister PD Sona pointed out that cinema plays an important role in mass communication, adding that films can be the impetus for change in society. He appealed to young filmmakers to take the opportunity of using the AFF as a platform for creative expression in developing the film industry in their region. Sona also commended the organizers for their efforts in fostering the film industry within the state.
IPR Secretary Nyali Ete announced that this year's festival would prioritize entries from Arunachal Pradesh, following a successful curtain-raiser event on January 30 featuring the documentary "Zero to Hero." Ete introduced a feedback mechanism to collect suggestions for future festivals.
Organizing secretary S Flago thanked the government for supporting filmmakers and appealed to the participants to utilize all the opportunities which were provided by the festival. Techi U Tara, president of the Film Federation of Arunachal, acknowledged the challenges that local filmmakers have been facing but was optimistic about the industry.
The opening day of the festival included screenings of "Numb," by Janeth Pinngam, and "Map Al – The Salt," by Joram Tapak, in preparation for a celebration of regional cinema.
