ITANAGAR: On Sunday, four tourists narrowly escaped danger while attempting to walk on the frozen surface of Sela Lake.

Sources indicate that the incident took place when a group of four tourists, including a woman, intentionally ventured onto the frozen Sela Lake and fell through the ice. Fortunately, some of their companions were able to pull them out of the water, saving their lives. Sela Lake is located at an altitude of 14,000 feet above sea level.

Despite an advisory issued by Tawang Deputy Commissioner Kanki Darang in December last year, warning tourists against walking on high-altitude frozen lakes, locals say that tourists continue to venture onto the frozen surfaces of Sela Lake, Sangetsar Lake, PT Tso Lake, and the lake at Bumla Pass.

As per local tradition, high-altitude lakes are deeply revered, and tampering with or polluting these lakes is believed to bring fatal consequences.

Meanwhile, a five-member family from Dibrugarh, Assam, sustained critical injuries on Saturday when their vehicle plunged 50 feet into a gorge along National Highway-313 near Anini in Arunachal Pradesh. The accident occurred as the family was returning home from a trip to the area.

The injured are Hitendranath Burhagohain, his wife Rekha Burhagohain, their sons Bedabrata and Debabrata Burhagohain, and daughter-in-law Pramila Singh.

Officials stated that Pramila Singh’s condition was extremely critical, while the others were also receiving intensive medical care.
