Arunachal Government Terms 3-Day Capital Bandh Call ‘Illegal’

ITANAGAR: Arunachal Pradesh government spokesperson Bamang Felix, while addressing a press meet on Sunday, termed the three-day ‘capital bandh’ called by a few organisations as not only undemocratic but unconstitutional and illegal.

He warned that any such move will be dealt with according to the law.

Felix said that the state government has been proactive in taking a series of steps to bring reform in the entire examination structure of the Arunachal Pradesh Public Service Commission (APPSC) after the paper leak scandal emerged in the open, addressing the media at the state secretariat,.

He said the state government has also taken action on most of the 13-point charter of demands placed before it by the Pan-Arunachal Joint Steering Committee (PAJSC), which was decided on February18. Felix added that the written form of the minutes of the meeting is in the public domain.

“If there is any delay, it is because the state government is dependent on some independent agencies or the process is a continuous one,” he stated, adding that, “Unfortunately, some sections of the society have not appreciated the efforts made by the government and have called a bandh in 11 to 12 districts from May 10,” he said.

This remark came in the light of a group of individuals announcing a three-day bandh in 11 to 12 districts to protest the APPSC paper leak case.

He also flayed the bandh callers for wrongfully trying to focus on the issue on social media by linking the name of late GyamarPadang with the bandh call, which he said will only cause a disservice to his soul, while denigrating his role as a peace-loving person. Moreover, he said, the state government would not tolerate any undemocratic activity and troublemakers will be dealt with by the law.

He further said Chief Minister Pema Khandu intimated the family members of whistle-blower Padang of his untimely demise, while honouring him and his work.

Home Minister Felix also appealed to the public to have patience and wait for the announcements to be made on August 15.

Reacting to a picture of Khandu meeting the former APPSC Chairman Nipo Nabam posted on social media, Felix claimed it was fake and that the CM has not met any of the former members of APPSC after the scam was unearthed, nor asked any government spokesperson to do so on his behalf.

He appealed to people not to circulate wrong information on social media, which will only mislead the public.

Felix further claimed that the CBI is conducting its investigation according to rules and regulations which forbid it from sharing confidential information with anybody, not even the government.
